Bark is one of the most effective mulches there is. It holds moisture in the soil and keeps it cool when the weather is warm, improves the soil’s texture and stops weed seeds from germinating. A mulch with more wood in it lasts longer than finer mulches and better protects the soil from the elements, so dust stops being a problem on windy Cape Town days.
Our bark is an organic mulch. As it breaks down it slowly releases nutrients into the soil, helps prevent compaction and aids drainage. Combine it with our compost for a fertile, low-maintenance garden.

BARK MULCH, NUGGETS OR WOOD CHIPS?
- Bark mulch: retains moisture, keeps the soil cool in the hot months, improves soil texture and helps the soil hold water. Ideal around trees, shrubs and garden beds that will not be disturbed much.
- Bark nuggets: smaller and easier to manage for any size of garden, and can be used to beautify garden beds and lawns.
- Wood chips: an affordable mulch that releases nutrients slowly as it decomposes, protects the soil from erosion, retains moisture and suppresses weeds. Use them to line pathways and define flower beds.
