What is lawn dressing made of?

Stanler Farms lawn dressing is a mixture of our own weed-free compost and washed sand. The compost feeds the grass and the sand helps level the surface.

Do I need lawn dressing or topsoil?

Lawn dressing is for an existing lawn that is lumpy, tired or patchy. Topsoil is for filling new beds, building up low areas and starting vegetable patches. Read more in the differences between lawn dressing and topsoil.

When should I put lawn dressing on my lawn?

Early spring, in September and October, as the grass comes out of winter dormancy. A lighter dressing in March or April is optional.

How thick should lawn dressing be?

Spread it in a thin, even layer of about 6 to 12 mm, so the grass blades still show through. See how to use lawn dressing for step-by-step tips.

How much lawn dressing do I need?

Multiply the lawn’s area in square metres by the depth in metres. For example, 100 m² at 1 cm deep is 1 m³. Use the calculator above for your own lawn.

Do you deliver lawn dressing?

Yes. We deliver from our Cape Town yard in Durbanville and from our Gauteng yard in Centurion, which serves Johannesburg, Midrand, Centurion and Pretoria. Call the nearest yard for a quote.
